Hi everyone!

We were having an interesting conversation at Harvest Kitchen this week about the best way to reheat our food.  It’s true that all our plastic containers are microwave safe, so popping the food in the microwave til it’s hot (maybe 2-3 minutes for a 1 lb serving–add more time if it’s not hot enough) is always a great option.  If you’ve got a pot pie or a quiche or something else in one of our aluminum containers, you can always transfer it to a microwave-safe dish and microwave those items too.

However, some things will maintain their texture a little better if reheated in the oven.  For example, this past week’s chicken parmesan has a lovely breaded crust on it that will get crispy if you warm it in the oven.  But it’s served on a bed of pasta, which won’t benefit much from being in the oven.  Our recommendation is to put the chicken in the oven in an oven-safe container and microwave the pasta.  That way you get the best of both worlds!  It’s definitely slightly more work, so don’t worry if you have to just microwave the whole thing–it’s definitely fine either way.  Some other dishes that do well in the oven for reheating include things with crust, like pot pie and quiche, as well as spanikopita, with its lovely flaky phyllo pastry.

Another thing to note is that sometimes we throw in a garnish, as with this past week’s Chilaquiles Casserole, which was topped with sliced radishes and cilantro.  We recommend removing these items before you heat the food, whether in the oven or the microwave (you can set them aside in the lid) and adding them again afterwards for a crisp contrasting flavor.

As a final note, please remember that the plastic dishes are not oven safe.  Also, always use your best judgment about timing and approaches to heating the food–every oven and microwave is different, so please use your experience to figure out what works for you!

We hope you’ll enjoy all of our dishes and that these tips help you make the most of them!
