A coldframe full of kale at Community Farm

We’ve had a few warm days this week and it finally feels like spring is in the air (after a weirdly warm February and a chilly March and a few snowy days in April) (typical!).  Thankfully we’re also seeing signs of spring in the produce we can get from our farmers.  Greens like spinach, kale, and chard are becoming more abundant, a welcome addition to our rotation of vegetables from the freezer and cold storage.  Still, we can’t expect the full diversity of amazing spring and early summer treats for another 6 weeks or so. They say that spring is the hardest time for the locavore–the warm weather makes you think that more veggies should be available, but in truth the fields are just being planted.  Have patience, though, there are good things to come from those fields in the months ahead.  Plus, the creative chefs at Harvest Kitchen have a lot of tricks up their sleeves to make the springtime treasures shine.  Check out this week’s menu for some awesome ways to enjoy the flavors of spring!
